On December 8, 2008, Rogers announced its newest model, the Blackberry Curve 8900. This new Blackberry smartphone is but one of a complete lineup of smartphones on Canada's most reliable network.

This new curvy creature packs a lot of life into the thinnest and lightest QWERTY Blackberry yet. Packing quad-band EDGE support with Wi-Fi and GPS this little guy delivers with full force.

Rounding out the Curve's geek qualities are a 512 MHz next-generation processor and a brilliant 480x360 high resolution color screen.

Not one to be lacking on features, Blackberry loaded the 8900 with the expected features such as a 3.2 megapixel camera with digital zoom, flash, and stabilization; email, instant messaging, an organizer and web browser and then topped it off with the best of the best:

  • Built-in GPS which supports TeleNav GPS Navigator and Blackberry Maps – never get lost again as long as you have your phone, you can even tag your photos with geotags.
  • Rogers Talkspot support service using the built in WiFi
IM with any one of a variety of Instant Message tools
  • Facebook for Blackberry – never be far away from your online community again.
  • Micro SD/SDHC slots for memory cards
  • Capability to edit Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point documents using DataViz Documents to Go

The list goes on, including Internet support for up to 10 email accounts; a light sensing display to make your pictures and video more brilliant and access to a variety of mobile applications using the Rogers Do More Portal.

The media player on the new Curve plays streaming audio and video and records both pictures and video and has ports for stereo headsets. Using an SD memory card you can carry your favorite tunes around with you on your phone.

The web browser is more like a desktop application, displaying full web pages instead of snippets of pages. The pages are also quicker loading than other browsers.

This Curve has a 1400 mAhr battery to provide you with over 5 hours of talk and up to 15 days of standby time, and everybody knows you’ll be charging somewhere during that amount of time so you have plenty of talk time to chat it up.

The Phone

All those features and we haven’t even covered the phone itself. With voice activated calling and noise cancellation features and support for Bluetooth, even the phone itself is sleek and savvy. Weighing in at a mere 3.8 oz. And only 4.2 inches high, this is Curve is truly the sleekest of the sleek.

Pricing for the Blackberry Curve 8900 starts at $179.99 with a three year contract from Rogers and a monthly voice/data fee of $45. Check out the Curves on this one.
