At Your Fingertips – Google Earth Comes to the iPhone and iPod Touch

Fans of Google Earth will be happy to know that they can now access it on their iPhone or iPod touch. The same features that are available on the desktop version will also be available on the portable version.
This application offers maps, Wikipedia articles and photos of locations. As Google Earth users know, this application makes finding a location and learning about it easier than ever before. Users will continue to experience the same navigational tools and panoramic imagery as before, only now they can actually be on their way to the location they are seeing on the screen.
Google Earth for iPhone or iPod touch also offers a “search near me” function. This allows the application to return search results based on the users exact location. So if a user queried movie theaters, the Google Earth application will return all movie theaters within the area.
How does the Google Earth phone know what location you are in? When setting up the application users choose to allow the Google Earth to determine the location based on either GPS, WiFi or cell tower information. This information is then deleted each time the application is exited.
See Your Destination Before You Arrive
With the Google Earth application installed you can take a virtual tour of any city. So if you’re heading for Hawaii, you can use that wasted airport time to look around the island. Read what Wikipedia has to say and look at some user submitted photos of the area.
Users could practically plan their every footstep of their trip before they ever arrive on location. With the “search near me” function, once at their destination, they can have the application point them in the right direction.
Google Earth users who have long praised the excellent imagery and various navigation tools of the product will rejoice at having Google Earth available on their iPhone or iPod Touch. The application is available through the iTunes music store.
