What Are Cell Phone Flip Phones?

There are four main different types of wireless phone handsets available today. And cell phone flip phones have proved a popular choice.

A cell phone that’s a flip phone has an opening hinged cover, or lid if you prefer. This cover flips down over the main body of the phone beneath to cover the screen and keypad when it’s turned off. Though some flip phone models only cover the display screen or the keypad when not in use, and not both.

The display screen can be protected from scratching this way. And with the keypad covered, accidental pressing of any key whilst your phone is in your pocket can be easily prevented.

The regular style of phone - known as a bar / block / or candy-bar style needs to have a key guarding accessory for this. Alternatively it can have the key lock feature turned on. But if the flip phone covers the keypad as many do, then this does the job.

Another advantage of a flip phone is the Active Flip feature. Most flip phones support this, and it enables a call to be answered just by opening the flip cover. And just as easily, the call can be ended at anytime, by flipping the hinged cover closed again.

The cover does not obscure the headphone jack. So if you like to use your phone in the car or elsewhere with a cell phone hands free kit with earpiece. You don’t have to worry about jamming the cable inside if you close the cover abruptly to end a call.

Some flip phones don’t fit well in certain types of phone holders, so watch for this if you are considering buying a cell phone starter kit. Some of which contain these cellular accessories.
