December 10, 2005 By: Matt Jacks What Is The Cell Phone Voice Mail Feature? One of the first extra features to appear on mobile phones, cell phone voice mail is still highly important. Despite all the other stuff you can do with your handset nowadays, like getting cell phone maps or playing games. Using voice mail still ranks well amongst users. Almost all cell phones and plans have voice mail today. Though the cost for using it will depend on both your carrier and your service plan. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook something like cellular voice mail when comparing newer features like picture messaging on phones. So review the carrier companies’ offers before handing over your cash. And don’t forget to see that their voice mail service is reasonable. But what does it do? Well simply put; it’s auto call answering. Voice mail springs into action when you receive a call but either can’t, or don’t want to, answer your cell phone. If you don’t answer (after a preset number of rings) or if your handset is turned off, voice mail will deal with the call. The caller will then hear either the default phone response or recording of your voice - or a celebrity sounding download - asking them to leave a message. You can then hear it by checking in later on. Most mobile phones will have a little symbol show up on your screen when someone has called and left a message on your voice mail. So you needn’t bother to waste time regularly checking it. Accessing and managing your voice mail is done through the traditional style of phone menu. Where pressing different keys will save, repeat, and delete the voice messages. How many voice mails you can receive or save over a given time, will again depend on your call plan.
