November 23, 2005 By: Matt Jacks What Is The Cell Phone Photo Caller ID Feature?Sometimes it’s good to know who’s calling before you answer your mobile phone. And that’s just what cell phone photo caller ID is all about. In cell phones with photo caller ID (sometimes also called picture ID) a photo or other graphic shows up on your display screen to tell you who it is. Regular caller ID (ID stands for identity, of course) just shows the caller’s number on your phone’s screen. Or on a little external screen if you have a flip phone or clamshell type handset with two displays. But with photo caller ID on your cell phone it can be more fun than that. You can assign a different photograph or other picture to individual numbers in your handset‘s internal phone book. So as to give you a bright reminder and put you in the right mood to answer (or not). As perhaps that picture of the hippopotamus has appeared to show it’s your mother-in-law. Leave that one for voice mail then! If your cell phone has a built-in camera like so many phone models do now. Then you can often use your camera phone to take your own photos to assign for photo caller ID. That may be a photo of the particular person of course. Their face would be the usual choice - or perhaps even another part of their anatomy that you’re fond of. But you could take any photograph you like, maybe of a car, or a flower, a funny-shaped cloud, or a lovely view, your parent’s home - anything really. And some phones also let you download photos and other graphics from the mobile web. Or from your pc too, maybe via Bluetooth if you have that capability. Like personalized ring tones, photo caller ID is another way of having a bit of fun with your phone when it starts to ring.
