What Is The Cell Phone Bluetooth Technology Feature?

Everyone’s probably heard of Bluetooth by now. After all, such a distinctive word is hard to ignore even if you don’t know much about mobile phones. Cell phone Bluetooth technology was first invented by Ericsson (now Sony Ericsson) but is now licensed for use by virtually all cell phone brands.

But what is it? Well, cell phone Bluetooth technologies allows for the transfer of electronic data without the need for any wires.

The immediate benefit is obvious. For added convenience and freedom from annoying cables that - just like little snakes - seem to love to snag onto anything within reach.

Bluetooth works by instead using radio waves over a short-range (up to around 30 feet distance) to generate what is known as a PAN (Personal Area Network). Within this PAN any Bluetooth enabled devices amongst cell phones, PC’s, Pocket PC phones, laptops, printers or PDA’s can communicate with each other.

Another Bluetooth device to use with your handset is of course a cell phone hands free kit with microphone and earpiece. And Bluetooth headsets are an increasingly popular choice for use when driving or elsewhere.

Bluetooth is not the only such wireless technology for use with cellular mobile phones and other devices. But using radio waves, Bluetooth has the advantage over systems like Infrared. Because the Infrared beams have to be more or less directed in a straight line (like your TV remote) whereas it does not matter which direction Bluetooth cell phones are pointing in.

And what about the word Bluetooth itself? It comes from King Harald Bluetooth, a Danish King who conquered Norway in the 10th century. Apparently he had such a strong urge to oftentimes eat blueberries, that they stained his teeth.
