Walkie-Talkie Wireless Phones – Available Now

Nextel and Motorola have announced Direct Talk which is a unique service that provides a walkie-talkie service for wireless phones. This "walkie-talkie" phone service is for use when customers are outside Nextel network coverage areas with a range of up to six miles. This wireless service is available on the Motorola i315 and i325 cellular handsets from Nextel.

Direct Talk is the first walkie-talkie wireless service that allows group and private walkie-talkie calls through 10 channels and 15 privacy codes. It is these channels and codes that allow for higher voice quality than traditional analog radio communications.

The user of either a Motorola i315 or i325 is easily able to activate Direct Talk by entering into the "off-network mode" which is found through the phone's keypad.

Direct Talk is also the only service that provides users with an acknowledgement tone, so that they can tell immediately when someone on their channel is available. The Motorola i315 and i325 handsets are both rugged in nature and rugged in features. They are essentially, the very first handsets that offer the off-network walkie-talkie capability. The Motorola i315 and i325 handsets are designed specifically with public sector and field-based workers in mind. Outdoor enthusiasts will also find these phones worthwhile.

Other features of the Motorola i315 and the i325 include a totally rugged exterior designed to withstand the elements of rain, heat and salt, coast to coast digital walkie-talkie capabilities and GPS enabled.
