GPS Camera Phones – For Navigation And Trip Planning

Trimble and Nextel Communications have now announced that they have joined forces to release a brand new service – the Trimble Outdoors service – perfect for the holiday season. The Trimble service is an online GPS camera phones solution that enables cell phone users to plan their outdoor trip, share details of their current adventure with friends and family, and even research trips that have been undertaken by others in the past. Using their GPS camera phone, users can even look at routes and points of interest on street aerial or topographic maps of the continental U.S. and parts of Alaska and Hawaii.

Targeted specifically toward people who call themselves outdoor enthusiasts, this cellular service can be downloaded via the Internet onto several of Nextel's mobile phones that have the global positioning system (GPS) capabilities. Cell phones that offer the global positioning system capabilities include the Motorola i710, Motorola i730, Motorola i830 and the recently launched camera phone, the Motorola i860.

If users are planning a trip then they can use the Trimble Outdoors software in conjunction with the Trimble Outdoors mobile GPS software. The Trimble Adventure Planner which forms part of this software eliminates the need for the user to have to purchase specific mapping software and makes planning trips easy by providing access to three completely different map types: street, aerial and topographic maps.

In addition, the Trimble Adventure Planner for cell phones allows users to plan their own trips, navigate routes, take photos, create trip reports and define points of interest for future reference.
