Mobile Instant Messaging - Yahoo! Comes Alive

Customers of Cingular Wireless are now afforded access to any Yahoo! Messenger accounts they might have through access to the Yahoo Mobile Instant Messaging community. Users are able to send/receive instant messages on their wireless phones through the full-color, graphical interface in their mobiles Instant Messaging infrastructure.

Cingular Wireless is the second largest wireless carrier in the United States. Their partnership with Yahoo!, one of the world’s leading global Internet providers, allows Cingular customers to use their wireless mobile phones to interact with their messaging tools. Users can, specifically, manage their friends and contacts list and add/edit/delete information as required, check to see if friends and family online and available for a chat session, as well as send and receive instant messages with anyone that is within the Yahoo! Messenger community.

The Comverse next-generation messaging solution has been used by Cingular to drive this new service. Comverse gives the user the ability to connect to their friends and family anytime, from virtually anywhere. This works well because of Cingular’s wireless phone capabilities, so people quite literally become totally mobile. Comverse also allows users to gain access to their existing desktop Instant Messaging services from the convenience of their cell phones so it is just like being at home or in the office.

Accessing Yahoo! Messenger is easy. All customers need to do is download the Cingular Mobile IM application from Cingular's website. It should be noted that this application is currently available for the Motorola V400 and V600 phones and will be rolled out for other phones as time progresses. Keeping an eye on the Cingular website will keep you updated.
