August 08, 2005 By: Cathy Harrison Samsung Memory Cards – New For The Mobile Digital WorldSamsung Electronics has announced the launch of its new Samsung memory cards for cell phones. Each Samsung memory card carries both Samsung flash memory and an in-house designed card controller. By releasing this kind of memory card, Samsung is meeting the industry standard that was announced by the Multimedia Card Association which is an open standard memory card agency. These new memory cards come in two formats, full size and mini, and are backwards compatible with the MMC card. These cards are upgraded versions of the MMC card specification. The new memory cards are designed to support wider bus widths (x1, x4, x8) and a clock frequency of 52megahertz (MHz). These new upgraded specifications enable more efficient data transition rates, which in turn improves real time communications on cell phones. These cards have the industry’s fastest read and write performance by conversely ensures minimum power consumption using only 3.3V. Samsung is anticipating that the advanced features of the cell phone cards, like small form factor, fast data processing rates and low power will all ensure that the market accepts the cards with overwhelming enthusiasm as a card that optimizes both mobile cell phones and other mobile digital devices. Naturally in an industry that it so competitive, the performance of a memory card is its key opportunity to seal the deal with potential buyers. Gartner Research Group predicts that demand for memory cards will grow at its strongest rate between 2003 and 2008.
