What Is A Cell Phone Antenna Booster?

The idea of a cell phone antenna booster seems to be talked about a lot recently. Some cellular phone users swearing that their antenna signal has improved after a booster is in place in their mobile phone, while other people remain less than impressed by the whole idea.

These cell phone antenna boosters, which have had extensive advertising on TV, are small copper circuit grids with adhesive backs, which you stick beneath your phone’s battery. With the idea being that they will improve the strength of the signal received by your cellular phone, PDA or GPS satellite device, and are also said to reduce static on older style analog cell phones as well.

A cellular antenna booster fits almost any handset model or cordless phone and it works by catching any stray RF (radio frequency) waves that are present within the cell phone body and then re-radiating them to the phone’s own antenna.

That is the theory anyway, and a disputed one at that. Although it has to be said that recent independent tests do (to the surprise of the reviewers) indicate that signal strength really is improved by these cellular boosters, though not quite to the amount as is claimed.

But nevertheless - special advertising claims are one thing as we all know - and if you can get your signal improved by an appreciable amount in awkward areas or indoors then that is certainly a good thing for your cellular service (as well as your mood).

One problem is that there are lots of cheap imitations around from companies that have jumped onto the promotion bandwagon, so if you decide to purchase one of these devices for your cell phone then consult reviews and ratings wherever you can to make sure you’re getting the real thing.
