January 26, 2005 By: Michelle Harris Sprint MM-A700 Cell Phone – For Streaming Audio And VideoSprint has unveiled Sprint PCS Vision(SM) Multimedia Services, and in conjunction with Samsung has launched the Sprint MediaPlayer Phone – the Sprint MM-A700 cell phone – to provide streaming audio and video content to its customers. The CDMA device, the first of its kind to provide streaming audio and video content in the United States, will provide content from companies such as CNN, NBC Universal, FOX Sports, 1KTV etc. Cellular customers would be able to watch audio and video clips ranging from entertainment, weather, news etc. The best part being, cellular phone consumers can watch their favorite NBA matches or learn about the latest fashion etc, by just clicking on the phone. According to Sprint they would like people to use their cellular phones to stay connected and abreast of what is happening around them and with this launch they hope to reinforce their leadership in the mobile data segment. The cellular phone by Samsung is the first CDMA phone in the United States that has the capability to provide streaming content with hi-resolution imaging. Real time video/audio clips can be demanded, seen or heard on these cellular phones. Video and audio is sent to the phone at a rate of 15 frames per second. The cell phone also has a megapixel camera and digital camcorder. Other features on these cell phones are Sprint PCS Picture Mail and Sprint PCS Video Mail services that are a boon for sending photo images and receiving them without any hassles. Sound quality of the cell phones is also excellent as the sound that you get is equal to sound that you get from CD’s. Sprint started offering multimedia services two years ago with 1KTV and Idetic’s MobiTV. Now with this new phone Sprint subscribers can view audio and video content from an array of 10 channels initially. The mobile phones are now available nationwide at Sprint stores and can also be bought from Sprint’s website.
