AT&T Wireless Mobile Multimedia Services – The New American Idol

AT&T Wireless Mobile Multimedia Services, the leading voice and data communication services provider has recorded a new height in the volume of text messages. AT&T Wireless has achieved this record for the 2nd year consecutively. Thanks to the popular television series “American Idol”, the use of text messaging has increased blindfolded.

This collaboration between AT&T Wireless services and American Idol has underlined the prospects of a symbiotic relationship between wireless communication and television. In an age of intense interaction and connectivity, the world of television must coordinate with that of wireless communication services in order to foster feedback and enthuse interest in its audiences.

The American Idol text messages have broken all records through their sheer numbers. AT&T customers with regards to the American Idol show sent a whopping 13.5 million text messages. AT&T has been involved with American Idol for two seasons. The bulk of text messages includes fan mails, games and song dedications and of course votes. The record for AT&T not only means an achievement for the text-messaging feature of mobile communication but also certifies the popularity of the American Idol show in no uncertain terms.

The entertainment industry will definitely try to exploit the text messaging service to its advantage in the coming years. The concept of “Text TV” was pioneered by the AT&T and American Idol combination. The growth of AT&T services in their realm of text messaging has been steady and sure. It was one of the 1st to provide the service in the US back in October 2000. There has been no looking back since then. In November 2001, it became the 1st to provide inter carrier text messaging service. In July 2002 it was the first provider of color picture messaging services. In February 2003, multimedia-messaging service (MMS) was introduced allowing a combination of pictures, animations, text and sound to be sent to and fro.
