Helping You Connect! |

December 30, 2004 By: Bill Schnarr What Is A Cell Phone Wireless Modem?A cell phone wireless modem is an accessory used to connect a cell phone or other portable device such as a PDA or laptop to the internet without annoying wires to make a “hard” connection point. Cell phone wireless modems are very common with companies such as Nokia and others such as Sprint PCS; a modem is offered in both the cellular phones they sell and as attachments that can be added to a cell phone or other portable device. Wireless modems are the first line of the next generation of internet, of “G3” technology. G3 simply means “Generation Third” or the third generation of cellular phone and internet technology to come out. With it, things such as Wi-Fi hotspots will be a thing of the past as everyone on the cell phone networks will have access to high speed wireless internet. If it sounds a little like science fiction, it really is. Cellular phone wireless modems and other accessories will allow for streaming data up to 2 Mbps directly into your cell phone, and will be an achievement comparable to the explosion of high speed internet right after it became affordable for desktop computers to be hooked up to their cable modems. In the meantime, however, there are a few cell phone companies and cellular phones that allow for a similar type of modem internet connection. While many still rely on simple wireless technology and need “hot spots” such as wireless internet cafés for connectivity, there are also come companies that serve internet needs to their users for a fee. This is a huge leap for people who depend on their laptops and a modem for work and other important aspects of the business world as it means that they are literally only seconds away from important networking with their computers, PDA's, and cell phones.
