December 30, 2004 By: Bill Schnarr What Is A Cell Phone Memory Card?A cell phone memory card is a removable stick of RAM memory that can be used to enhance the storage capacity of a cell phone, add software features to upgradeable cell phones, or even store or transfer files such as ring tones, contact information, or graphics from one device to another. Cellular phone memory cards are an important accessory for things like camera phones and PDA phones simply because eventually, everyone runs out of storage space. Depending on the specifications of the cell phone, a memory card or stick can double or even triple the amount of available memory space for the device. Cell phone memory sticks can be used with multimedia-friendly desktop computers to transfer files and important software upgrades. If a desktop computer has a slot for a memory card or stick (as many of the new ones do) then the cellular phone user can use them to easily keep their cell phones up to date or add their favourite graphics and ring tones. Cellular phone memory cards range in size from as small as five or ten megabyte memory slots to gigantic 250 Mb slots. However, it should be noted that because of the relatively small size of just about anything that comes into or goes out of a computer, a large memory card or stick is probably not needed if it is going to be used strictly for cell phone features. Finally, memory cards and memory sticks are a great way for a cellular phone user to transfer their graphic files from their cell phones to new printers for easy printing. Cellular phone cameras generally save photographs taken with the device as small jpeg files, a file type that new photo printers can easily process. What that means is that there are few problems taking pictures on a cellular phone camera or PDA/cell phone/camera combination and transferring them to paper in a photo printer, making them a great way to save memories and then keep them to share with friends and family.
