Helping You Connect! |

December 09, 2004 By: Bill Schnarr What Is The Cell Phone Headset Jack Feature?A cell phone headset jack is a connector used to listen to a cellular phone or mobile wireless handset in a “hands free” manner. A cell phone headset jack connects the wires from a cell phones headset or ear bud to the handset itself. Nokia makes a full line of cellular phone headsets jacks; Samsung and other companies such as LG and Sony Ericsson also put out comparable units. Like any electronic connector, such as on your television, stereo, or PDA device, cell phone headsets jacks come in a variety of different types and qualities. As such, they also come with a variety of different price tags attached to them. Connector quality depends on the “connectivity” of the metal being used in the jack, or the ability each metal has of transferring electrical signals without loss of quality or signal. Generally these connectors are stainless steel in standard cell phones headset jacks; they are adequate for the job they are meant to do and perform it with about average ability. For increased quality of sound and usage however, you may want to look around for gold plated better connectors. The gold plating increases the signal quality and reduces distortion and signal loss as the information travels to and from your cell phones or mobile wireless handsets and your headsets. Wireless handset jacks are most commonly found in packaged sets for cell phones. These sets most often come with a headset or ear bud and microphone, and all the connecting wires needed to use the device with your cellular phones. If you are willing to pay a little extra money, you can probably find sets that include other add-ons, such as antenna protectors and cellular phone carrying cases, or pouches and holsters or belt clips. For more information on cell phones, headsets, jacks or other important cell phone accessories, you should visit your local cellular phone distributor. Cingular offices have great staff that can help you, but also check with AT&T or some other cell phone companies, depending on whom you like and what your personal tastes are.
