December 06, 2004 By: Bill Schnarr What Is The Cell Phone Color Display Feature?A cell phone color display is a navigation screen on a cell phone that has the capability of processing color images or making use of color pixels. Since the vast majority of cellular phones displays are of the LCD variety (Liquid Crystal Display) they are only able to process a specific number of colors. In the old days, LCD meant a single lit color (usually white) and a “blackout” color. Digital watches and alarm clocks are a perfect example of a simplified form of LCD display. The screen simply lights up the areas needed to form a word or number, and blacks out the rest of the screen. In cellular phone color displays, things work a little different. Instead of simply being able to handle lit up or darkened information, new cellular color LCD screens are digital and handle information much the way a computer would. That means that not only can they process color images and displays, but they can also download or store images in color from your computer to be displayed or used later. Of course, the quality of a cellular phones image is still poor when compared to computer screens or televisions, but wireless phones color displays work wonderfully as simple color screens on cell phones or mobile wireless handsets. With each new generation of wireless phones color displays there are huge improvements being made. These days, a wireless phone company such as Mitsubishi or NEC can consistently put out a solid display for their brand of mobile phones that are both easy on the eyes and easy on the wallet. In the future, cellular phone color displays will most likely be able to display “true” color images as your computer can as the technology that makes them becomes easier to work with and more compact in size.
