What Is The Cell Phone Call Forwarding Feature?

The cell phone call forwarding gives you the ability to transfer your calls from your cell phone to another phone number, usually your home or business phone.

Cellular phone call forwarding is now a standard feature on most cell phones, and is widely added to many cell phone or wireless handset contract service packages. Using your cell phones call forwarding feature is a great way to control your cell phone bill, make sure you don’t miss an important call, or just to channel all of your calls to a single source.

You can control your cell phone bill with cellular call forwarding because you can simply transfer your calls to a new number when you are near another phone line.

At home this means that you can transfer cell phone calls to your home line and people will be able to contact you even after you may have put your cell phones away for the night or are currently recharging it.

Companies like Nokia, NEC, and LG phones have long seen the value in call forwarding and have offered it as a service for many years. Phone companies such as Verizon Wireless and AT&T offer special deals on their cellular phones' call forwarding service to customers who sign up for wireless handset and cell phone contracts.

One should be careful when using call forwarding, however, because there is a common scam that telephone scammers like to pull on people who don’t know too much about their cellular phones.

The scam starts as a phone call from someone who claims to be in prison (often for something they didn’t do or a technicality) and they are worried because they have been picked up and they have to get their children from school. They then ask if the person could call *-7-2 followed by the number of this poor person’s wife. If he doesn’t get in touch with his wife, the children will be stranded.

The scam, according to AT&T, is that *-7-2 is the standard dialling code for starting your call forwarding. When you forward your cell phone to this new number, the person at that number can accept third party calls and long distance calls while telling your legitimate callers they have the wrong number.

This could mean a lot of money charged unfairly to your cell phone. In short, never activate your cellular phones call forwarding feature unless you want to transfer the phone yourself.

Cellular phone call forwarding is a great feature for your phone, but remember to be careful with it.
