October 29, 2004 By: Greg Marsden PDA Wireless Phones — So Much More Than A PhoneLooking for a way to cut down briefcase clutter? Imagine combining your personal digital assistant (PDA) with your wireless phone into one small, stylish package. PDA wireless phones do exactly that. They combine the power of a palmtop computing device capable of word processing, spreadsheets and databases, with a full-featured cellular phone. One of the great things about PDA cell phones is the huge selection of software that is available. These phones use either the popular Palm OS or a Windows-based operating system to run applications and share information with your desktop computer or laptop. PDA wireless phone technology gives you several options for sharing data. You can use a USB data cable to connect to your computer. Some PDA phones can “beam” data to an infrared enabled device, such as another PDA. New Bluetooth capable PDA phones can make a wireless connection to laptops and other Bluetooth devices. Cell phones with built-in PDA devices are a smart choice for businesspeople that need round-the-clock access to information as they travel. Even when you are far from the office, in places like Richmond, Virginia, Marysville, Washington and Lubbock, Texas, you can stay connected to your POP email or corporate intranet with a PDA mobile phone. Optional Virtual Private Network software lets you access data securely. PDA phones can take advantage of downloadable ringtones, games, and multimedia messaging technology the same as other high-end cellular phones. As you might expect, a full range of accessories are available for PDA phones. Foldable full-size keyboards allow typing. Some of these devices support MP3 player technology, making memory cards and stereo headsets or speakers perfect add-ons. Handsfree kits let you use your PDA phone safely while you drive.
