New PDA Phones — Real Computing Power In A Phone

Remember when a computer was a hulking object that took up most of your desk? New PDA phones put full computing power in the palm of your hand. PDA, short for “personal digital assistant,” cell phones keep you organized with a scheduler, address book and alarms. More than that, these micro-sized marvels let you work on word processing documents, spreadsheets and databases…all the things that you expect from a desktop computer.

Typically new PDAs use either the Palm™ or Windows CE operating system. Hundreds, if not thousands of software titles are available for these devices. Many phone applications let you share information with your desktop computer or laptop. The new PDA phone technology gives you several options for sharing data. You can use a USB data cable to connect to your computer. Most PDAs can “beam” data to an infrared enabled device, such as another PDA. New Bluetooth equipped PDAs can make a wireless connection to laptops and other Bluetooth devices. While not exactly a full PDA, BlackBerry devices now offer PDA-like features in a mobile phone, including email access and web browsing.

Cell phones with built-in PDA devices are so powerful that they are often called “smartphones.” They are clearly a smart choice for businesspeople and others who need round-the-clock access to information as they travel. Carriers like Verizon Wireless and NexTel offer special services to allow users to access POP email and intranet connectivity. Even when you are far from the office, in places like Murray, Utah, Springfield, Vermont or even Christianburg, Virginia, you can stay connected with a PDA wireless phone.

A full range of accessories are available for PDA phones. Foldable keyboards allow convenient typing. Memory cards and stereo headsets take advantage of the MP3 player technology built into most of these devices. Some PDA phones are equipped with digital cameras and can transmit pictures wirelessly to stand-alone digital photo frames.
