October 29, 2004 By: Greg Marsden Flip Cellular Phones — Big Features, Tiny SizeFlip cellular phones don’t hold back on cell phone features. Imagine a datebook, phonebook, organizer, alarm clock, electronic video game, even a digital camera all rolled into a package that fits in your hand. You might be tempted to forget that these sleek handsets flip-open to become a full size wireless cell telephone! When finished, they fold back to protect the keypad and display. A flip cellular phone has the advantage of flipping open to place the microphone closer to your mouth for clear calls. Some models have a simple flip protector that prevents damage to the cell keypad. Newer designs of flip-open cellular phones fold completely in half. This design protects the cell display as well as the keypad. Motorola, Panasonic, Kyocera all have flip phone designs. Most cellular flip phones have full color displays that make it easier to navigate menus and play games. Many types of flip telephone have a liquid crystal display on the outside that tips you off when someone in your phonebook places a call. Some phones have a color display on the outside as well—ideal when the phone lets you setup picture caller ID! The small size might fool you, but many wireless flip phones include digital cameras. People who have friends and relatives in far-flung places like Huntsville, Alabama, Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona or even Rogers, Arkansas can take advantage of multimedia messaging technology to share digital pictures and video clips. Custom covers and leather cases are available for most wireless flip phones. For handsfree use, add a retractable headset or speakerphone module. Most of the new flip phones even connect to your personal computer with an optional USB data cable, letting you share information between your phone and PC. With all these features, flip phones are truly bigger than they look.
