October 29, 2004 By: Greg Marsden Flip Cell Phones — Big Features In A Small PackageSmall enough to hide in your hand, slip in a pocket, or stash in a purse—flip cell phones offer a full range of cell phone features in a stylish package. One big advantage of these flip-open handsets is that the keypad and display are completely protected. Flip phones come in a number of styles. The “original style” flip cell phone has an upright design similar to traditional “stick” phones. A flip-open protector prevents damage to the cellular keypad. Sometimes a microphone is placed on the flip, putting it closer to your mouth. Another design for flip-open cellular phones, adopted by Motorola, LG, Samsung and other companies, allows the phone to fold completely in half. This arrangement protects the display as well as the keypad. When you look at a cellular flip phone you’ll notice that most have a large full-color display that lets you view pictures and play games in photorealistic color. Many types of cellular flip telephones have a liquid crystal display on the outside of the case as well. This display shows the date and time, along with caller ID, available with most calling plans. A new advance in wireless flip phones is the addition of a digital camera. Combined with multimedia messaging technology these phones can send and receive pictures. Some flip mobile phones even let you setup a picture caller ID! Photo sharing is great, particularly when you have friends and relatives in far-flung places like Homewood, Alabama, Paradise Valley, Arizona or even Osceola, Arkansas. Flip-open wireless phones can be dressed up with a full range of accessories. Many of them accept custom covers or tailor made leather cases. Add a retractable headset, a cell phone strap, or with some models of phone a camera or flashlight module. Most of the new flip phones even connect to your personal computer with an optional USB cable, letting you share information between your phone and PC. All this simply lends truth to the saying that good things come in small packages.
