October 29, 2004 By: Greg Marsden Cellular Phone Carriers — More Ways to ConnectIf you’re looking for a state-of-the-art wireless phone be sure to get a state-of-the-art calling plan to go with it. Today’s cellular phone carriers offer an amazing array of plans and services. It pays to shop around to find the best service. Cellular carriers plans are enormously competitive, offering a wide range of cell phones, deals and promotions. It helps to have a list of the things you need before you shop. The best cellular carrier is the one that fits your lifestyle. Getting the lowest cost-per-minute is not the only way to save when it comes to cell phone rate plans. Cellular carriers all have elaborate menus of their phones features and services designed to help you save. Look for a carriers plan that matches the way you use your cell phone. Do you use your cell phone mainly for business during the daytime? Look for a calling plan with lots of free anytime minutes. Do you use your phone to keep in touch with family and friends? Many plans have free mobile-to-mobile minutes when you talk to people who use the same carrier. Free night minutes are a great bargain but there’s a catch—most plans don’t give away night minutes until after 9 PM. A few plans give away night minutes as early as 7 pm. A number of carriers offer plans to help you make the most of minutes you don’t use during the month. Cingular has Rollover minutes, letting you carry over the phones unused minutes. Sprint PCS has a Fair and Flexible™ plan that lowers your rate in months when you use less minutes. When you compare cell phone calling plans, be sure to check the coverage map. If you stay close to home you won’t have to worry about roaming charges. But if you travel between places like Daphne, Alabama, Flagstaff, Arizona and Fayetteville, Arkansas, look for a plan with wider coverage. Plans with no roaming charges can also save money as you travel.
