Cellular South BREW – Application Solution

A privately held wireless provider, Cellular South is now offering its customers an array of Cellular South BREW-based applications and services. Cellular South BREW is available to cellular subscribers in a five-state area of the southern United States, which includes parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida and Alabama.

Created by Qualcomm, Cellular South BREW, or Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (See Demo), is a proprietary technology platform that will allow customers to browse and download entertainment and communication applications for their cell phones. Ring tones, screensavers, wallpapers, e-mail service and downloadable games will now be available in the Cellular South coverage area. BREW will offer Cellular South customers information services like weather and sports updates and additional applications such as maps, city guides and navigation tools will also be provided.

In March 2003, Cellular South was honoured with an Excellence Award from Wireless Week Magazine. The award recognizes the top cellular companies in the country that have demonstrated technological innovation, corporate vision and leadership, and subscriber growth.

Cited as an industry leader for its low customer turnover and expanding customer base, Cellular South has invested more than $260 million in its infrastructure over the last five years. Cellular South recently completed its third-generation (3G) CDMA 1X wireless network which has significantly increased the capacity for voice and data traffic and allows Cellular South to offer its popular flat rate billing plan.
