October 25, 2004 By: Jack Adams Sierra Wireless Voq Phone – New Tri-Band PhonesA Canadian-based company, Sierra Wireless, is please to introduce a new phone that combines the best of high-end cell phones and PDAs. Available at the end of summer 2004, the Sierra Wireless Voq Professional Phone is specicially designed for the professional who relies on mobile communication at work. The new Sierra tri-band phone runs on both GMS (global system for mobile communication) and GPRS (general packet radio services) networks. With features that appeal to business professionals, the Sierra wireless phone includes an advanced e-mail management system and comes equipped with both text and multi-media messaging capabilities. The Sierra Wireless Voq is programmable and can send an audible, visible or vibrating alert when e-mail arrives from a specified address. The phone can also be programmed to activate when an incoming e-mail contains designated words or phrases in the subject line. The Sierra Wireless Voq phone also addresses the need for secure business communication. Embedded with a virtual private network (VPN) client, the Voq Professional Phone allows secure access to company files. The phone also contains a slot for a secure digital multimedia card, allowing the end-user to add additional storage capacit. The Voq phone comes with 48 MB of Flash memory and 32 MB of RAM. The Sierra Wireless Voq Professional Phone runs on the Microsoft Windows 2003 Mobile Operating System and is equipped with Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer and speech recognition software developed by Advanced Recognition Technologies.
