October 19, 2004 By: Jane Connelly What Is A Cell Phone Pouch? If you work hard and play hard your cell phone might need more protection than a cell phone holster affords. A cell phone pouch offers maximum protection. Cell phone pouches differ from a holster by completely enclosing the telephone. The terms “pouch” and “case” are sometimes used interchangeably. The difference is that a pouch completely encloses the mobile phone whereas some cases give access to the display or keypad. The most elegant pouch for cellular phones is made of leather and are similar to soft cases for eyeglasses. You simply slip your cell phone into the pouch for protection. These are ideal if you keep your cellular phones in a purse or briefcase. Rugged suede leather pouches for outdoor use have a flap that covers the cellular phones keypad, keeping out dust and debris. Ballistic nylon fabric pouches for wireless phones look sharp and take a beating. These mobile phone pouches make a great accessory for a backpack or messenger bag. A flap at the top of the pouch is held in place with a hook-and-loop closure, preventing the telephone from falling out at any angle. Neoprene, the material used to make wetsuits, is a great material for cell phone pouches. Smooth and lustrous on one side, soft on the other, a neoprene pouch protects your wireless telephone from moisture, impact and dirt. Pouches come in a wide assortment of colors. Some cell phone pouches are screened with sports insignia, cartoon characters or fashion accents. Cell phone pouches have a universal fit, meaning that cell phones from Audiovox, Nokia, Mitsubishi or Motorola can fit the same case. Most cases for cellular phones have an integrated belt clip. Some have a hook-and-loop closure that can fit on a belt or the strap of your luggage.
