What Is A Cell Phone Cover?

Mobile phones are more than telephones. Today's wireless devices make a fashion statement. A cell phone cover is a fun, fashionable way to change the look of your wireless phone.

While the term “cover” sounds like something that slips over the outside of your cell phone it is actually part of the phone’s housing. Covers typically come with a front and back shell that replaces the housing currently on your phone. Changing covers gives your mobile phone a totally different look.

The term "cover" is sometimes used interchangeably with the word "faceplate." Nokia cellular phones were among the first to offer changeable faceplates, but other companies have been quick to catch up. You can find cellular phones with changeable covers or faceplates from Motorola, Samsung, LG…practically any cell phone on the market.

Cell phones with removable covers usually open easily with the press of a button. Many cellular phones without removable covers can still get a face-lift with a wireless phone cover. The job requires special tools and is best left to a professional.

Some cell phone models don’t need to be opened in order to change the cover. Kyocera’s Phantom series of wireless phones have interchangeable accents called “masks.” Other cellular phones have snap-in-place covers that fit over the face of the cellular phone.

The great thing about cell phone covers is that they come in just about any style imaginable. Feeling patriotic? Red, white and blue American flag covers are very popular. You can also find wireless phone covers in fashion colors, in translucent tones and even a high tech carbon fiber look.

Changing the cover is a great time to put in a new keypad. High fashion crystal keypads have gemlike keys or flash different colors during an incoming call. With the cover off it is easy to remove the old keypad and slip in a new one.
