What Is A Cell Phone Retractable Headset?

"I can't talk now, I'm all tied up," takes on new meaning when it comes to cellular phone headsets. Even the best coiled-wire headsets can get you in a tangle when you're using your mobile phone. A cell phone retractable headset will help eliminate the snarls and loops.

Cell phone retractable headsets have a small reel that takes up the excess wire, making the headset easier to store in a purse or briefcase. The lightweight retracting mechanism works automatically on some cellular headsets; touch a button on the reel and the cord rewinds.

Retractable headsets can be found in the same configurations as other cellular headsets. Over-the-ear headsets have a loop that keeps the earpiece close to the ear. Earbud-style headsets have a small earpiece that rests inside the ear. Another style of earpiece fits gently inside the ear canal.

The microphone on a retractable cell phone headset might be part of the earpiece, mounted on a boom attached to the earpiece or attached to the cellular headset cord at about mouth level. The closer the microphone is to the user's mouth, the clearer the conversation in most cases.

Retractable cellular headsets are great fashion accessories for people who want hands-free use of their wireless phones. Not only are the headsets and reels designed with flair, they eliminate dangling loops of headset cord that can snag on furniture, get caught in a car's seatbelt retracting mechanism, and look like a fashion faux pax.

Nokia, Sony Ericsson wireless phones, among others, require headsets with special connectors designed for the particular model of phone. Motorola, LG, Kyocera and other phones can use a universal headset with a 2.5mm phone jack.
