October 19, 2004 By: Jane Connelly What Is A Cell Phone Speaker Phone?Part of a cellular phone’s appeal is portability. Roughly the size of a candy bar, a cell phone practically hides in the palm of your hand. Nevertheless, there are still times when most mobile phone users want desktop functionality from their wireless phones. A cell phone speaker phone gives the same benefits as a speaker phone on a desk model. Many users appreciate the way a speaker phone leaves their hands free as they go about their business. Cell phone speaker phones can help prevent accidents while driving. In office environment cell phone speaker phones let users type notes while taking calls. Speaker phones allow two-way communication by letting users talk over a remote microphone, usually built into the speakers device. One or more speakers broadcast the incoming call. The volume of the speakers on a speaker phone is loud enough that users do not need to hold the cell phone to their ear. Multiparty conversations can be held over speaker phones. Several people in an office or at home can listen to the same conversation over a single cellular phone. Almost all wireless phones can be used with an add-on speakers device. Nokia, Samsung, Sanyo, LG and other companies offer cellular phones with a built-in speakerphone mode. Universal speaker phone kits come in portable models or units that can be permanently mounted in a vehicle. Some advanced speaker phones facilitate voice recognition, allowing the user to connect by speaking a name or phone number aloud. There are Bluetooth speaker phone kits that make a wireless connection to Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. When both devices are setup to communicate together they work as a speaker phone, eliminating the need for cumbersome cables.
