October 19, 2004 By: Jane Connelly What Is A Cell Phone Hands Free Car Kit?A cell phone hands free car kit can eliminate some of the danger that comes with driving while talking on a mobile phone. Taking your eyes off the road in order to dial, fumbling for a cell phone that is ringing somewhere in the vehicle, and taking one hand off the wheel in order to hold the cellular phone—any one of these actions can be a recipe for disaster. Cell phone hands free car kits come with a wide variety features. Some of the best cellular phones kits require professional installation. Nokia, Motorola, Kyocera and other companies also have a portable hands free cellular kit that requires no installation. A vehicle cell phone holder may be included with the cellular phones kit or it may be added separately. Most cell phone hands free kits operate using a built-in speakerphone. A microphone picks up your voice as you talk and a speaker broadcasts the voice of the person on the other end. Some hands free kits operate using a handsfree earbud, and other kits give you the option of using either the speakerphone or the earpiece. Portable hands free kits are an economical alternative for people who want to use a speakerphone at home and in their car. People who frequently use their mobile phones in the car will probably want the convenience of a permanently mounted unit. The most advanced hands free car kits offer voice recognition, allowing the user to speak names or phone numbers for hands free dialing. Some of these kits automatically mute the vehicle's sound system during outgoing or incoming calls. Owners of Bluetooth-enabled phones, such as those made by Sony Ericsson, may want to consider a Bluetooth hands free car kit. These kits make a wireless connection to the telephone and let you speak hands free. Some hands free kits give you the choice of talking over the speakerphone or with a wireless Bluetooth headset.
