Cellular Phone Donations – Help Fight Domestic Violence

The Donate a Phone/Call to Protect campaign has accepted cellular phone donations since 1998. More than 2 million cellular phone donations have been donated to the foundation, which supports organizations working towards the end of domestic violence.

Consumers are encouraged to give their used cell phones to this program since donations have two very positive results. First, donating your cell phone helps to protect the environment from the potential hazard of dumping used phones in landfills, and second, the phones help to benefit victims of domestic violence.

The “Donate a Phone” program recycles cell phones to help a variety of charities. Through “Call to Protect”, donated phones are refurbished and given to victims of domestic violence. Donated cell phones often serve as a lifeline for people living in potentially violent situations. The phones are pre-programmed to automatically dial 911. Other donated phones are resold with the profits going toward grants that support agencies working against domestic violence.

Here’s what you need to do to make a cell phone donation to Call to Protect:

  • 1. Make sure that your phone is deactivated.
  • 2. Look on the Donate a Phone web site to see if there is a drop site in your local area.
  • 3. If there is no drop off site in your area, simply mail your cell phone to: Call to Protect, 2555 Bishop Circle West, Dexter, MI 48130-1563.

Call to Protect will accept your donation of used cell phone batteries and chargers as well, and all cell phone donations are tax deductible.
