September 17, 2004 By: Jack Adams Toshiba SoftPhones – Award WinnerThe SoftIPT Toshiba SoftPhones received a 2004 Innovation Award from Technology Marketing Corporation Labs. The award-winning phone was developed at the American Information Systems Digital Solutions Division of the Company in Irvine, California. The SoftPhone was chosen for the award because of the seamless transparency and user-friendly interface. These features allow customers to manage incoming and outgoing calls from their computer. Introduced in late 2003, the Toshiba SoftIPT SoftPhones were designed to make the features of desktop phones available through computers. The SoftPhones are compatible with any laptop or PC running the Windows XP operating system. The SoftIPT essentially allows office workers to take their office phone wherever they take their laptop. They can also access their company’s phone system from a remote computer. The SoftITP SoftPhone lets users access all voice mail features from their PC or laptop. They can also transfer calls and use the caller ID and call forwarding features of the Strata phone system. The computer can also record phone calls. Conference calls for up to eight people can also be made from the computer. “The SoftITP does for the Strata telephone system users, what the cell phone has done for landlines. It lets users go mobile without missing important calls and telephony features,” said Michael Durance when he announced the new product. Durance is Vice President and General Manager of Toshibas Digital Solutions Division. The SoftITP SoftPhone is available from authorized dealers.
