September 17, 2004 By: Jack Adams Cell Phone Special – Don't Just Take Their Word For ItNot all advertised cell phone specials are special. What you can rely on though is that there is always a cell phone special available to be had, and you don't ever need to pay full price for a cell phone. Google's search engine will direct you to nearly 35,000 cell phone specials. Because more and more people are relying on cell phones to communicate in business and at home, and the fact that the average user is changing phones every 18 months, wireless companies are using all kinds of methods to sell their phones and service plans. Offers include perks like free phones, cash-back rebates, free calls on nights and weekends, no roaming charges, no activation fee, and the list goes on and on. In order to ensure that the phone special you are being offered really is special, be an informed consumer. Be prepared by determining beforehand what type of cellular plan you’re looking for and what type of phone you need. When you have determined what your needs are, shop around, surf the Internet to research cell phone plans and equipment. Some sites offer the option of searching by zip code to find cellular services in your area. Make sure that when you are comparing advertised specials, that they include all costs. For example, if one special offers a free phone and another doesn’t, but has cheaper minutes, be sure to add the cost of the phone to the second plan. As a smart shopper, you could also take the best advertised cell phone special that you find online, to a local service provider and ask if they can offer you a better the price.
