September 17, 2004 By: Jack Adams Wireless Phones – Wear Them As JewelryWhat if wireless phones were stylishly disguised as a watch, bracelet, necklace, lapel pin or even woven right into your clothes? When you were getting ready for the day, you could choose the wireless phone jewelry or jacket that best complemented your outfit. In Europe and Asia, wireless customers are already beginning to wear cell phone watches and pendants. Technology trend analyst Michael King says the trend will catch on and grow. He predicts that by 2007, 20 percent of people using wireless phones in the United States could be wearing their phones. European companies are leading the way in incorporating wireless technology directly into clothing items. Infine will introduce a snowboarding jacket this fall that has a microphone in the collar to communicate with a wireless phone. The jacket also has a woven in MP3 player and keyboard. Companies are beginning to experiment with ways to merge wireless communication and fashion. Nokia has introduced Imagewear necklaces that display pictures taken with a wireless phone. Watchmakers Fossil and Seiko both have created phone watches for the Asian market. Samsung has launched its own version of the wireless phone watch. Can it be long before the phone itself is incorporated into the necklace? The initial buzz on wearable wireless is that is a cool idea but not very easy to use. Developing technology could soon change that. It might not be long before wireless cellular phones become just like shoes or maybe the phone will come in the shoe itself.
