Nokia 9600 Cell Phone Stun Gun – What Are You Packing?

Thanks to a new Nokia 9600 Cell Phone Stun Gun, you will not only be able call your friends, you will also be able stun your enemies. In February 2004, Nokia announced the development of the Protector 9600, a cellular phone that comes equipped with a stun gun.

The Protector 9600 fires a cartridge that deliver a 50,000-volt shock and will allow Nokia cell phone users to disable an attacker from five to 10 feet away. The shock, Nokia says, is humane and legal and has no long-term effects. Each cartridge contains two probes that attach to skin or clothing.

Nokia is working with communication and safety agencies to get approval for the phone in Europe and North America. The company hopes the cell phone will be available in those areas in 2005.

The new Nokia phone sparked debate after it debuted at the OGSM world conference. Some critics wonder just how safe the stun gun feature really is. Others insist that users should have a license if they are going to carry the Protector 9600 cell phone.

The US Consumer Product Commission is currently testing the cell phone-stun gun combo. The commission wants to determine how the shock will affect people, including children.

Stun guns that look like cell phones have been available for years already. The Protector 9600 seems to be the first working cell phone to incorporate a stun gun. If the Nokia cellular phone is approved, watch for other companies to introduce competitive models. The phone will be available in Japan in late 2004.
